How to Add a Watermark to a Page in Microsoft Word


Watermarks in this Office Version can be viewed only in Print Layout and Full Screen Reading views and on the printed page.

    On the Page Layout tab, in the Page Background group, click Watermark.

    Do one of the following:
    • Click a pre-designed watermark, such as Confidential or Urgent, in the gallery of watermarks.

    • Click Custom Watermark, click Text watermark and then select or type the text that you want. You can also format the text.but how do you write in 2 lines?The watermark is stored in the header/footer layer. So, opening the headerfor editing would be a way to gain access. Also... if the watermark is submerged under text, you might need to click the Select Object tool in


order to be able to select the picture. In Word 2007, this is located in the Home tab, right end of the ribbon under Find and Replace. Click Select - Select Objects. You should then be able to select the drawing for editing.

    To view a watermark as it will appear on the printed page, use Print Layout view.

Microsoft Word 2002/2003

    Click on the Format Menu, Background, and then Printed Watermark.

    In the Printed Watermark dialog box, click Text watermark.

    In the Text box, type My Watermark (or the Text, which you want to appear as a Watermark).

    In the Font box, click Century Gothic (or any other).

    In the Size box, click Auto.

    In the Color box, click Turquoise.

    Click to select the Semitransparent check box (default setting).

    Click the Diagonal option next to Layout.

    Click OK. The watermark that you just created is visible on the document sheet.

Microsoft Word 2000

    Click on the View menu, and then Header and Footer. A Toolbar would appear.

    Click on Insert menu, choose Picture and then WordArt. Use any one the style you desire to, and then Click on OK.

    In the Edit WordArt Text dialog, type your watermark text. You may also select a different font and size.

    Click OK. Your watermark should appear on the screen.

    Once you have got your watermark, close the WordArt and Header and Footer toolbars.

    Now starting making your document, and you would come to know that the Watermark remains underneath the text.
